چکیده

The application of chemotherapy in cancer treatment has been limited due to cause side effects such as toxicity against normal cells and drug resistance. In recent years, numerous studies have been focused on using natural products with chemotherapeutic drugs to enhance therapeutic efficiency and reduce cytotoxicity. On the other hand, encapsulation of drugs into nanoparticles (NPs) can improve solubility of hydrophobic drug; circulation time in blood and the residence at the pathological site by enhance permeation and retention (EPR) effect. It has been shown that curcumin (CUR) has a wide range of pharmacological activities against many diseases such as cancer. CUR has been demonstrated to be a potent chemosensitizer that can induce additive or synergistic effects with chemotherapeutic drugs against different cancer cell lines. Recently, various types of nanocarriers have been investigated for CUR. In this review, different coformulations containing Cur and chemotherapeutic drugs used in cancer therapy are discussed with emphasis on their pharmaceutical properties.

Co-Administration of Curcumin and Bromocriptine Nano-liposomes for Induction of Apoptosis in Lung Cancer Cells

Background: In recent years, nanotechnology with modern advances in the macromolecular design of nano-carriers has proved to be helpful in the development of drugs delivery systems. This research represents a novel co-administration of nano-vehicles, known as liposomes. Liposomes efficiently encapsulate curcumin and bromocriptine (BR) in a polymer structure, which results in enhanced aqueous so...

Evaluation of protein corona formation and anticancer efficiency of curcumin-loaded zwitterionic silica nanoparticles

Objective(s): Study and development of antifouling nanosystem for conjugation of drugs were attracting great attention in recent years. The present study aimed to develop novel curcumin-loaded silica nanoparticles containing zwitterionic coating as an antifouling system to provide protein corona free nanoformulations for curcumin. Materials and Methods: Silica nanoparticles were prepared ...

Polyphenol nanoformulations for cancer therapy: experimental evidence and clinical perspective

Cancer is defined as the abnormal cell growth that can cause life-threatening malignancies with high financial costs for patients as well as the health care system. Natural polyphenols have long been used for the prevention and treatment of several disorders due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, antineoplastic, and immunomodulatory effects discussed in the literature; thus, th...

Interaction of curcumin nanoformulations with human plasma proteins and erythrocytes

BACKGROUND Recent studies report curcumin nanoformulation(s) based on polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), β-cyclodextrin, cellulose, nanogel, and dendrimers to have anticancer potential. However, no comparative data are currently available for the interaction of curcumin nanoformulations with blood proteins and erythrocytes. The objective of this study was to examine the interaction of curcumin...
